I took a long weekend in the wild to clear my mind and soul after a couple work-heavy weeks. The bush always regenerates me, I think the drylands and giraffe have some mystical hold over me, like a deep rooted earth magic, old as the eagles who fly above it. We bravely did the 16 hour drive up to Otjiwarongo – an area situated in central-north Namibia. We didn’t spend anytime in the city, but it is one of the more German influenced towns in the country. The vast farm lands are mostly game reserves and hunting lodges, with a huge emphasis on conservation and buck breeding.

We stayed at Otjiwa Lodge, and were taken out twice daily on game drives. It’s amazing how quickly you can adjust to a new way of life, by day 3 we were almost impatiently waiting for our pick-up to see the animals. I spent the majority of our drives using my eyes to absorb the nature but my ears were held captive by Serial. The podcast everyone told me to start listening to 3 years ago, well it finally happened and I was hooked. I think the best part of that little convenient app is that you can download them and listen without signal. So with the case of Adnan Syed as the soundtrack I wondered the plains of Namibia documenting all its glory.
