It’s been a tough two weeks tbh, starting your own business comes with serious ups and downs and I feel like the outside pressure ‘of doing well’” can be crippling. Especially in the early parts of building your own thing, social media is a tool used to help you market but can also give you ALL of the anxiety while you watch other people/ brands look like they are killing it in the game. And thats because A) you got to fake it until you make it – by keeping up the facade that all is splendid and B) noone wants to show their sad/bad/a tad average days. Unfortunately thats the reality of this new world, and I constantly have to remind myself not to compare or envy others – because the truth is you never really know whats going on behind the curtain.
So thats a quick reality check and the second one was a quote that went around recently about supporting small new businesses and your friends within them. It touched me deeply, not only cause I am one of those people now but because I have always tried by best to promote reach out and complement local designers and brands who are fresh on the scene. That was part of my job in media last year and it truly makes such a difference when you have an open energy to share and advocate. It’s something I want to do more of, especially because in South Africa #localislekker.
